Results for 2023

Results are published here in date order, latest at the top. If you have any results to add, please email the webmaster (see contact us page).

Nowadays quite a lot of races only show club name for EA registered runners. This is very frustrating as it makes it much more difficult to find Hardley results.  If I miss you please email me.  Or better still, join EA.

Geoff Mills Trophies

Geoff was a prolific racer who represented Hardley in pretty well every local race even into his 80s. To celebrate his love of racing his daughters donated two floating trophies, one for women and one for men. They are awarded annually to the two Hardley members who represent our Club in the most races in the RR10, HRRL, HCCL and CC6 Leagues plus the Hampshire, South of England and National Cross Country Championships. The more races you complete, the more points you get, with a current maximum of 38 points.

Note: HCCL races are now awarded double points to encourage participation.

Due to changing the season to match our membership year, the 2022/23 Geoff Mills trophy season runs from September 2022 to March 2023.

2022/23 season results (Excel spreadsheet)

From the 2023/24 season onwards the Geoff Mills trophy points will be calculated from April to March to bring it in line with our membership year. Previous years used September to August.

Three of us took on the 10K this year (there is also a half option). The weather stayed dry for the race but it was very wet underfoot with some fairly deep pudles across the gravel tracks. A couple of hill climbs through the woods were included for some extra night running challenge!

At the end we received a nice wooden medal, a pack of biscuits and a little bottle of gin.

CC6 Itchen Valley Country Park

Click on the thumbnail to see the full size photo

The course was brilliant! A real mud fest with a mix of grass, and gravel tracks made for a really good CC6 course.

The men’s team had a huge improvement from 7th at round 1 to 3rd overall, With Dan Latham leading the way in an impressive 12th place followed closely by Jappas Du Preez in 15th (3rd V40). Next was James Peckham in an impressive 22nd after leading Hardley in the day before at the HCCL. Rounding out the men's team was Sam Messer finishing in his best CC6 finish to date of 24th place. Other finishers Matt Tanner 7th in V50, Kevan Day 2nd in V60 and Mick Anglim 2nd in V70.

The Female team finished in a great 5th place and are sat 4th overall. First home in an amazing 5th place was Alice Rudd, next was Charmaine Bradford in a great 18th place and rounding out the women's team in her first run since a 50 mile ultra was Hayley Coates in 32nd. Tamsin Roberts made a great 10 place improvement from round 1 from 53rd to 43rd.

Huge well done to everyone making it around the muddy course, hopefully see a good turnout for the next round on the 10th of Dec at Kings garn, which is always a great atmosphere with marshals in fancy dress and Christmas music on the way round.

HRRL Race 4 - Hayling 10 mile - Sunday 5 November 2023

Hayling 10 - group Hayling 10 - Socks and Medal Hayling 10 - Mick

Click on the thumbnail to see the full size photos.

This was the 4th HRRL race of the season - The New Forest 10 mile from last weekend was cancelled due to flooding and will be held again next season.

Thankfully the heavy rain of yesterday had ceased and we were greeted by a dry and sunny, although windy, day. The very wet section of the Puffing Billy trail from last year had been removed and so there were only a few puddles and a bit of mud to deal with. There was a new section along the back of the beach which had been partially covered with shingle but with a bit of care was passable without slowing down too much!

Eight Hardleys finished the race with a full team of 4 men for the league team position but unfortunately only one lady. There were some great results as this is a quick course, including Mick winning 1st place in his age category. Well done everyone!

As well as the usual medal we also received a pair of running socks as a momento - so if you are after some new socks sign up next year ;)

Next up for the HRRL is the Gosport Half on 19 November.

The Mile of Miles is an annual 1-mile, 10-leg, relay race held between a number of local clubs on a running track, this year at Mountbatten School in Romsey. We enter two teams, an A Team and a B Team, each made up of 10 runners, with ideally at least three ladies on each team. Our A Team finished 3rd out of the 30 teams entered and B Team finished 15th. Well done to everyone that ran, timed, or otherwise helped out with this great event!

Chris reports: "There have been so many messages on Facebook following the Mile of Miles! This leaves me with little to say, except Thank you to one & all for your enthusiasm & energy to support Hardley Runners. Thank you for running so well & giving it over 100%. This was Hardley teamwork at its best!"

The final round of the RR10 series was held by Romsey Road Runners at IBM Hursley. The course was the same as last years, with Grass, Gravel and Tarmac terrain and the occasional short sharp burst of hill.

RR10 Race 9 - Badger Farm - Wednesday 2 August 2023

RR10 Badger Farm 2023 group

Click on the thumbnail to see the full size photo.

Tonight marked the return of the Badger Farm RR10 for 2023. Stormy and wet conditions throughout the day led to a smaller cohort of runners, with only 8 hardley runners attending out of 278 runners in total. Those who did brave the weather, were met with sun and blue sky for the duration of the run, with a slippery, wet and rocky underfoot.

To begin the race, the race director warned runners to look both down and up at the same time to watch out for roots and low hanging branches simultaneously. A few Hardley runners had a fight with brambles, but nothing more than a few scrapes.

Ending on a hill, there were scarce few sprint finishes, but it was a happy sight to turn the corner and see the finish slightly sooner than expected with the course being shorter than advertised (no complaints there).

Jane Hodge took the ladies home, with Meghan Claridge in 2nd and Sarah Fitton in 3rd.

Mark Ferguson was 1st Hardley man, followed by Mick Anglim and Lee Gregory in 2nd and 3rd respectively. Well done to Lee, as this was only his 2nd ever RR10.

Well done to everyone who took park tonight. 16th August at IBM hursley is the next and last RR10 of the season, let's have a huge Hardley turnout! Can't wait to see you all there.

This weeks RR10 saw a welcome return of the Marwell venue for the first time in over 5 years. The course started with a quick section of road and a lap around the car park to spread the field, before heading down a narrow hill in the woods, then a section of field, and two laps of the wooded / grassy narrow paths, and a run back up the hill to finish at the car park. In places tonights run was conjested and some runners mid pack were forced to walk until things had cleared, whilst front runners had to over take on the narrow course.

Jeremy Barber suffered a nasty trip and managed to finish the run well, despite a cut eye brow and grazes to his knees. Hope you're not feeling to bruised Jeremy.

Ben Andrew is making a return back into running and improved on the last RR10 by 6 places. Andy Barber & Mike Sleath had their best finishes this year.

The ladies were led home by Tamsin Roberts in 73rd, Jane Hodge in 84th (and 5th F60), with Sarah Fitton in 92nd (16th in F50's).

Dan Latham led the men until the last K, when Callum Johnson and James Peckham came past and the three pushed hard together as a team finishing with Callum 24th, James 25th and Dan 26th. Very well done Callum first man home and James on a super position in your first RR10. Some great Hardley Teamwork. Mick Anglim finished 3rd in the M70,s with Paul Newby in 6th.

Well done all brilliant running. The next event is at River Hamble Country Park on 5th July with an earlier start time of 7pm. See you there!"

The course does a lap of a playing field for both the start and finish with the bulk of the course running through the centre of New Alresford and out into the country lanes and back again. Six runners finished for Hardley, with Dan leading our men home in 39:08 and Alice, as our lone female, finished in 43:14 and came 1st in her category."

A special mention also goes to Mike and Mick for each finishing 2nd in their age catergories! Well done everyone, another great race!

Just one more HRRL race to go this season: Lordshill 10k on Sunday 2nd July, which will also serve as our club championship competition!

Tracy reports: "Fabulous time at the Ox. Hard running, hot weather, great laughs! Can't wait to do it again."

Steve reports: "What a great couple of days, tough with the Sunshine on you but a pleasure to see so many personal achievements! First in age category for the Dark Ox, the field is getting real thin now! Then the Frolic on Sunday! Had the pleasure of running with Mark & Hails for a short while as part of their epic 50 miler! Nb. The drive to the venue was only 41 miles, puts it in perspective!!!!"

Simon reports: "There was much better weather for the race this year with sunny skies but not too hot. It was a nice course, with the usual three laps of the park plus a little extra loop to start and finish. Ten runners finished for Hardley, with Alex leading us home with an excellent time of 36:37 and completing his first HRRL race for the club. Alice was our first lady and managed 2nd in her category even though she is coming back from an injury!"

A special mention also goes to Mick and Mike for finishing 2nd and 3rd in their age catergories! Well done everyone, great results!

RR10 Race 3 - River Hamble Country Park - Wednesday 16 May 2023

RR10 River Hamble Country Park 2023

Click on the thumbnail to see the full size photo.

This was the 3rd round of the RR10 series in which 15 Hardley Runners took part. The course was mostly the same as in previous years; starting and finishing on grass with winding, undulating gravel and dirt tracks leading around the country park and along the riverside. Things have really dried out in recent days as there was barely any water or mud to negotiate. Overall a great course with some nice scenery.

Jane brought the ladies home in 59th place, with Meghan 2nd in 63rd and Tamsin 3rd in 66th.

The men were led home by Matt in another excellent 5th place, with Callum in 37th and Simon in 58th.

Very well done to everyone that took part.

The next RR10 is our own one at Cadland on the 31st May, 7:30pm start. We can't run it, so please volunteer if you can.

Alton 10 mile group Alton 10 mile - Mick 1st MV75+

Click on the thumbnails to see the full size photos.

Simon reports: "A nice and scenic route and thankfully not as hot as it has been in previous years! The course was changed slightly this year so that the start was just off the main road through Alton on a grass field, and then carried on as normal, and the finish was moved back to make up the distance. I was very pleased to get a course PB; over a minute quicker than last year. Unfortunately we only had three Hardleys running and no ladies at all. I would encourage you to try this one in future, as it is an interesting and challenging race :)"

A special mention goes to Mick for finishing 1st in his age catergory! Great result!

RR10 Itchen Valley Country Park 2023

Click on the thumbnail to see the full size photo.

Last night was the 2nd round of the RR10 series in which 26 Hardley Runners took part. The course was in parts heavily rutted and hard under long grass, in other parts there were long gravel paths and there was the odd bog, which us Hardleys ploughed through and gained places!!

Alice Rudd recovering from injury brought the ladies home in 31st place, with Tamsin Roberts 2nd in 58th and Meghan Claridge 3rd back in 62nd.

The men were led home by Dan Latham in 21st place, with Carl Hall in 41st and Simon Ibbotson in 60th.

Congratulations and a very big well done goes out to those runners that participated in their first RR10; Lou Kitcher and Kim Latham have progressed from last years beginners group and should be very pleased with their efforts. Jack Miller also completed in his first RR10 for the club finishing finishing very respectably.

There were a couple of runners that made noticable improvement fthis week; Jo Blackmore improved by 12 places and Graeme Johnson by 13 places, in what was a slightly bigger field this week (5 more ladies and 11 more men).

Carl hall finished 4th in the M50s, Jane Hodge was 5th in the F60s, Kevan Day was 4th & Paddy Butler 6th in M60s with Paul Newby 7th in M70s.

I have pulled together a table of the full hardley results so far attached for your perusal! (Download Excel file)

The next run is at River Hamble Country Park 17th May, 7pm start. See you there.

The Womple - Sunday 30 April 2023

The Womple

Click on the thumbnail to see the full size photo.

Adrian reports:
"The Womple vaguely base on the word "CODDIWOMPLE to travel in a purposeful manner towards a vague destination" is a self navigation event, in this case with 5 check points that must be passed in any order, over around 8 miles if you don't get lost.

With the five of us entering this event, and taking the short drive to Charmouth for the start, on what turned out to be the ideal weather for the run, though not what one would expect for late April, the race started at 10am with staggered starts of 45 seconds apart, and anyone knowing this area almost immediately uphill, which soon put the brakes on the running, passing the highest point at Golden Cap at about 3.5 miles, though not the last hill by a long shot, I recorded over 2000 feet of elevation, which I believe is well over the Fell run heigh classification.

We all managed to finish as a group apart from Paul who was held back by his knee problem, however both Tiff and Mary finished in 1st and 2nd for there age category."

The Triple Whammy (Inc. Andover Parkrun and HBT5) - Saturday 29 April 2023

Part 1 - Andover Parkrun Part 2 - Run between Part 3 - HBT5

Click on the thumbnails to see the full size photos of each stage. Jeremy has shared more photos on Facebook.

The Triple Whammy is the brainchild of our very own Jeremy Barber. It consists of running the Andover Parkrun and then running from there to Hurstbourne Tarrant in time to finally run the Hurstbourne Tarrant 5 mile (HBT5). In total around 14 hilly miles!

Jeremy reports:
"Yesterday was the Triple Whammy. Jane, Sarah and Sarah Hood did the whole thing. Andy and I (aka the sensible brothers) did phases 1 and 3 and drove from Andover to HBT with the kit (well someone had to). The parkrun start was delayed a bit and those few minutes mattered as the three women didn't quite make it to the start of the HBT5. But no problem; they met the race coming towards them in the first minute and joined in. What a lovely day. The HBT5 is a great local race with a fantastic atmosphere. Thank you to everyone who made it such a special day."

Very well done to the five club members that took on and completed the London Marathon on Sunday! They also raised lots of money for some great causes!

Ben reports: "What an amazing day!! Unbelievable atmosphere really helped on those last 6 miles."

Steve reports: "Well if you didn’t know I ran the London Marathon today, what an absolutely awesome experience! From the buzz getting on the tube with thousands of other runners to crossing the finish line to the noise of the crowd cheering you on I loved it all!!!"

Tracy reports: "London marathon WOW! Ran non stop for 16 miles, my furthest! The wheels came off then and my head was winning. Remembered my plan B strategy which was run/walk between points and thats the way I ran the rest. Managed to run 27.1 miles and got just under 5:30 hours which was sort of in the back of mind."

RR10 Fleming Park 2023 - Ian and Jane

Click on the thumbnail to see the full size photo.

Tonight, was the first RR10 of the 2023 series at Fleming Park, Eastleigh, which was hosted by Totton Running Club and Southampton AC. This year the course was in reverse and the going was interesting with bone dry conditions for the main part of the run with a quarter of the course in sticky mud, which proved great fun!

28 Hardley Runners turned out to take part with 8 Ladies and 20 Men.

The top 3 ladies making up the first team, were led home by Charmaine Bradford in 24th, Meghan Claridge completing her first RR10 in 46th and Tamsin Roberts in 48th.

The top 5 men making up the first team, were Matt James in an amazing 5th place, Callum Johnson taking it easy before his marathon this weekend 🙂 in 10th place, Dan Latham in 18th, Nick Jarvis in 24th and Carl Hall in 33rd. A very strong men's team finish and the first 3 finishing in their highest ever positions.

Tonight, was the first time a new bar code finish system was used, there were some teething problems with 25 runners finishing without registering, but thankfully only 1 Hardley runner was not registered, so thank you guys for reading the memos and completing your registrations, much appreciated.

As always it seems there are some high placed age category positions with Jane Hodge in 65th, Lisa Lewis 87th, Paddy Butler in 104th, Mick Anglim 204th and great to see Paul Newby complete the course after calf issues last season.

Well done all great running, and we all seemed to enjoy ourselves.

See you at the next run on 3rd May at Itchen Valley Country Park 7pm start.

Rob reports: "A trip to Winter Warrior Finland to compete in their last race here, it was an epic 16k through 4ft high snow and to summit two mountains, one carrying an ice block! and of course the infamous ice scream tunnel. In some of the best scenery I’ve come across. And to complete it with Steve a Rocket team mate was brilliant. Plus some nice metal bling for a change. Totally earned."

Simon reports: "It was a damp start to the day but it cleared up by the start and it was a dry race other than the large puddles! This course is always popular as it is quick and very scenic, winding through the courtryside north of Salisbury. I really like that the finish is a lap of the athletics track as it makes for a fun way to end the race. It was a good turnout of 10 runners for Hardley, including a full team for both the ladies and men. Well done everyone!"

CC6 Race 6 - Itchen Valley Country Park - Sunday 12 March 2023

A photo album can be found on our Facebook page here.

It was a suddenly mild, dry and fairly sunny morning for the final CC6 of the season. A different course had been design from the one used at the previous CC6 there back in November. It cosisted of one large lap and one smaller lap and wound around the park through various bridleways and paths. A decent amount of slippy mud and grass slopes were included to give us that genuine cross-country experience! A challenge but good fun to round off the season.

First home again was Simon Ibbotson in a well fought 31st place. Followed closely by Carl Hall in 32nd. Third home was Kev Day in a brilliant 52nd, rounding out the men’s team was Sam Messer with his best finish this season 59th place. Sadly, no female team again this round as we only had one lady which was Sarah Hall finished in a strong 69th place which is a huge improvement from the last round.

Huge thank you to everyone that ran in any of the races in this year’s CC6 series it’s been a good year with plenty of new and old faces making appearances, hopefully we can continue this into the RR10 series which starts on April 19th at Fleming park starting time of 7pm but Rob and Dan will send more information regarding this closer to the time.

CC6 round 5 at Badgers Farm. It was the usual 'undulating' course with a slight tweak to the start so that we looped back down the hill and through into the gulley. There were a few obstacles to watch out for, including tree roots, ducking under a partially fallen tree, and some horse riders that suddenly appeared from a side gate on one track and caused the runners to stop and then slowly walk past the twitchy horses. Overall it went smoothly and was good fun. First home was Simon Ibbotson for the second race in a row in a fantastic 16th place. Then it was Dan Latham in solid 20th place, Not bad for someone taking it easy! ;). Third home Phil Rudd in an amazing 40th place a huge improvement from the last round. Rounding out the men’s team was Kev Day even after taking a fall Kev managed to finish in 48th place. Sadly, no Female team this round as we were one lady short But Alice Rudd came home in 3rd place for the third race in a row and Sarah Hall finished in a great 91st place. Huge well done to everyone that ran hopefully we can see everyone at the final CC6 round at Fleming park on the 12th of March.

Simon reports: "It was a damp and windy start to the race but it had cleared up by the end (always nice to finish in the dry!). Due to a new bypass being built, it was a brand new course this year and I think it worked well well (still a good one for a PB!). A really good turnout of 18 runners ran for Hardley (11 men and 7 ladies), which means we had two men's teams and one ladies team of 4 each. There were PBs for Sam and Phil, and I came very close to mine as well. Very well done to everyone especially given the conditions."
