Geoff was great racer. He turned out for pretty well everything. His family have given two trophies, one for women and one for men. They will go to the people who run in the most races in the RR10, HRRL, HCCL and CC6 series plus the cross country county, regional and national championships. The more races you finish the more points you get.
This season's results so far are here (Excel spreadsheet).
The final results are here. 97 people turned out for the club in the qualifying races and they made a total of 580 appearances . The winners were Chris Harris and Adrian Mudle.
We started with the 2013 season for each series. The final results are here. The winners were Annie Bruce-Low and Mick Anglim.
Well that was a wet and windy one. It made Gosport seem like a walk in the park on a lovely summer day! The organisers did a great job despite the conditions and managed to find space for nearly 500 runners to park. Everyone stayed in their cars until the first few ventured out towards the start followed by a surge. The run was character building and, with hindsight, fun. The results don't show clubs and with everyone wearing waterprrofs it was not possible to spot other Hardley vests. Was anyone else there?
Hardley webmaster, Jeremy Barber, was 220th in 57:09. You can see the full results here.
Three Hardley runners took part. Steve Bennett reports, ""As I was deemed in such poor shape by the Chairman, I was dispatched to the Portsmouth Coastal Marathon and away from club mince pies. A multi-terrain affair with Tarmac, gravel, grass, mud, puddles and water...not to mention a very stiff Solent breeze.
An early start and the weather meant I gave the family cheering squad a day off, and so I set out on my own, or so I thought. At 26.19999 miles I heard a cry of "go Steve!". I turned my head and saw Hardley's Katie Collard and her sister Sarah waving.
Well they weren't there for me, this can only mean David Gould is doing something silly again, probably in sandals! Sure enough he ran the 50k ultra.
Thanks to Katie for the post race hug...given my wet, sweaty and muddy appearance - that was probably the performance of the day!"
David Gould was 167th in the 50K in 5:14:10. In the marathon Steve Bennett was 354th in 4:16:42 and John McKenzie was 380th in 4:21:09. Well done all. You can see the full results here.
Club President and Race Organiser, Mick Anglim, writes, "Despite the cold wind there were an impressive 21 runners who finished within a minute of their Predicted Time with joint winners Chris Harris and Carole Bailey only one second either side of their prediction!
The seemingly effortless fastest time was set by Jappas Du Preez in 38:48, only 8 seconds over his prediction.
Another notable performance was from 7 year old Finn Aplin who walked the first lap with his mum, Claire and younger sister. After refuelling on chocolate reindeer and orange juice he completed the 4 laps in a nominal 79 minutes looking very relaxed. A future star?
On the Fancy Dress front we had several inventive outfits and a very daring 'Stripagram' Nurse in the shape of guest Malcolm Price. Norman Harvey and Mary Corbett topped their tandem aeroplane from last year with the 'greenest' creation of a functioning wind turbine and solar PV panel which they bravely carried around for 3 whole laps. Chairman, Adrian Mudle and his 118 partner Mark Lee shared the other Fancy Dress prize and completed the course together only 4 seconds off their prediction.
Thanks to everyone who took part and or helped. Special thanks to Andy Simpson who set out the course markers by bike before his run and to Claire Aplin who started her Mountain Marathon training early by running around collecting the wooden markers in a rucsac! Thanks also to the Finish Team of Rob Wells, Kate Bulpit and Chris Wilson and to Ray Noke and Andy Kellaway for the mulled wine and mince pies."
The results are here (Excel spreadsheet) and here's a photo album. Thanks also to our photographers, Simon Ibbotson and Malc Renyard. If you have any more to add please email them to our webmaster (see Contact Us tab).
A welcome revival of this popular race. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here. Congratulations to Malc Renyard who was first M70 and 3rd out of everyone on age grading and to Jane Hodge who was first F55. Both Malc and Jane had competed in the SEAA Masters XC the previous day so these performances are particularly good.

Steve Bennett reports, "Whilst the weaker members of the club were nursing hangovers or running the CC6 :-), 8 heroic Hardley Runners took part in this inaugural 10 mile trail run.
Starting at Sandy Balls holiday village (at the bottom of a very steep hill), it followed a 10 mile out and back course. Apart from a short road section, this was a trail run, in the most beautiful of surroundings. Flat it most certainly wasn't as we faced hill after hill, the odd water splash, hills and some more hills. Did I mention the hills?
At the finish we were rewarded with a medal, a bread roll and most welcome of all, some hot soup. If you like the RR10s and CC6s, do yourself a favour and consider this one for the future - a fantastic addition to the local running calendar"

Well, thank goodness, the promised heavy rain and 40 mph winds did not materialise though it was a bit damp and breezy. We were in two races. First the men aged 50 to 69 ran 10K. Then the ladies aged 50 and over and the men over 70 ran 6K. Results were in 5 year age bands. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here. HRRL Captain, Adrian Mudle, writes, "With 13 Hardley runners turning out for the Victory 5 mile, Hampshire Road Race League event at Portsmouth on what was an interesting day with the weather conditions being a bit suspect, we still managed to field two teams for the men and one for the ladies. Many thanks to Hardleys new members Tom and Paul, for their first event and very respectable times, also to note that Mick, Terry and Chris managed top three places in there age categories, and more significantly for Terry as the first time in the V70 category. The wind along the sea wall playing a part in the race times this year with a great push on the outward leg, however in your face on the return, time to take shelter behind a larger runner if possible.
Still one of the easiest runs in the league, and hopefully a good run was had by all."
Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here.
Special mention goes to Terry Earney who, on his 70th birthday, met his idol, Bruce Tulloh, who recently celebrated his 80th with an 80 mile walk.

Well that was a windy one! It was a new and improved course but overall the results were a bit slower this year with 1052 out of 1571 breaking 2 hours compared with 1136 out of 1574 last year. That was down to the wind which caused most runners to slow down dramatically in miles 8 and 9 when the field was strung out and there was no-one to shelter behind. The wind whipped the tops off the waves so were were all salt encrusted by the end. But the rain held off and it was a good run with an excellent Hardley turnout. Well done all! There was a good Hardley turnout despite the poor weather and it was great to see Hardley fielding a ladies' team as well as the men's. The wet weather made the course a bit muddy as you can see from the picture of Adrian. Liz's secret weapon, the purple go faster wellies proved very effective and she led the Hardley ladies home.

There was an excellent Hardley turnout with 18 members running. It was cool and misty so very good conditions for running. Congratulations to Christopher Zablocki who set a new course record of 49:42. This lovely 10 miler (with a 5 mile option as well) is organised by our Totton friends. By contrast with previous years when there was plenty of mud, the conditions this year were dry. Even the stream crossing (normally about knee deep) scarcely wetted the toes. So excellent condions for a fast run and well done to everyone who took part. Particular mention goes to Sue Sleath, first Hardley runner home, first FV55 and first female overall. This bodes well for New York in a fortnight, Sue. Good Luck. Sue is running to raise funds for Birthlink. If you'd like to sponsor Sue please click here.

Hardley's Mark Lee was 127th in 3:32:02. This is an annual event which is designed to provide a challenging off road course using the steep and varied terrain within running distance of Minehead. The distance is 15.1 miles with total ascent of 3627 ft. The route runs from Minehead to the highest point on Exmoor, Dunkery Beacon and then back to Minehead. It follows a mixture of paths, rough terrain and tracks and both the outward and return leg involve some tough climbs.
There were 4 Hardley Runners taking part . It was a combined start with the ladies doing two 3.3k laps and the men three laps.
Underfoot conditions were very different to the winter cross countries there with no mud!
Mike Cummings, representing DfT came an impressive 2nd overall by 6 seconds.
Jane Hodge, HMRC, was 1st W55 and Mick Anglim, OS was 1st M65 following Ian Smith, also OS. You can see the full results here.
Paddy Butler writes, "Last Sunday 5 Hardleys went to Dorset to run in the dunes and the beach for the Studland Stampede 12k. Hard work on the dunes but luckily no nudists on the beach to run past."

Steve Bennett writes, "I admit I confused my calendar this weekend. Having agreed to cover your captain Ian this weekend, I found I had agreed to run the Hants Cross Country the day before as my son was competing. Surely nobody else would be this this stupid? Well step forward Ian Banks and Adrian Mudle - the latter desperate to hold on the Geoff Mills Trophy. The three of us hauled our aged, shattered corpses around Fleming Park and to be honest we can't remember a thing!
However lots of other Hardley Runners did attend and tell me it was a great deal of fun. We had 13 men and 6 ladies. Congratulations to Andy Kellaway for leading the men home in 30th. Liz Young led the ladies home in a fantastic 4th. It was great to see some new members and graduates from the beginners coming through.
The next race is our own on 22nd November. Please reply to Ian's plea for help, if you haven't already done so."

Congratulations to our men for raising almost 2 teams for the first fixture. And particular congratulations to Mark Causebrook and Ben Andrew for making the top 100 in the usual quality field of track runners.
Perhaps we can raise two teams for the Popham fixture in November and Kings Park, Bournemouth in December?
Note that these quality events are free to EA registered members.

There was a selection of events from marathon to 5K but I can't identify Hardley finishers because of the way the results are presented. If you were there please let me know your result. Thanks. The ones I have heard from are below. You can read more about the event here.
Ann Maylott ran the 10K and came in in position 1365 in 1:18.11 out of 1443 runners, which is an improvement of around 7 minutes on her last 10K and Kevin Hancock was 783rd out of 2959 runners in the half marathon in 1:49.16. Well done both.
Fuddy Mud Sucker is a grueling, muddy, and sticky run with 20 obstacles over a 5km lap. Slides, lakes, tunnels, mud pits, and a stream are just some of the obstacles you'll have to negotiate to get round - all of which are wet, or muddy, or both. The course includes running through dense woodland, 2 lakes, and a stream, not to mention various muddy obstacles we have created to slow you down! Plus there's a fire pit to negotiate. The race is at Fairthorne Manor and includes part of the RR10 course.
Of course that was not enough for Hardley Runners Steve Henry and Robert Wells. They did two laps! And didn't they do well ... Robert was 8th in 1:27:59 and Steve was 9th and first MV in 1:28:00.
They look remarkably clean in the picture; I guess the swimming in ice cold lakes washed the mud off.
You can find out more on the race website.
Annie Bruce-Low is at it again; running with her bucket to raise funds for Alzheimer's. Sunday saw her in Glasgow doing the Great Scottish 10K. Weighed down by £178.8, Annie finished 8263rd in 1:49:57. Well done!
You can read more about the event here.
Annie will be taking to the streets with her bucket again later this month at the Great South Run.
Thank you very much to everyone who helped and everyone who ran and especially to everyone who did both! Feedback has been good and included lots of references to the friendly and encouraging marshals. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here.

Re-launched at a new venue after a year's absence and with a wider range of distances, this proved to be a very popular event. In fact it was so popular that the start of the half had to be delayed becuase of the queue of traffic arriving.
After the race there was a nobbly knees contest.
Hardley results are below and an excellent set of results they are. Well done all. . You can see the full results here and read more about the race here. HRRL Captain, Adrian Mudle, writes, "Many thanks to all those Hardley Runners who made it to the first HRRL race of the year, to the new comers, seasoned runners, and also those that chose to cycle from Winchester to warm up! This event is the ease in to the league at only five miles, though with a bit of an undulating course (hilly to some). It turned out to be a great day. It was maybe a bit warmer than most runners would have liked, but we had some good results, with complete teams for the ladies and men running.
The next race is our own Solent Half, which is open to our members. After that come the Lordshill 10, the Gosport Half, and the Victory 5. These races fill up fast so please don't leave it to late to enter"

Paul Blundell writes,
Yesterday I started the white cliffs 53 mile and I'm feeling a little sore now. It's fair to say that Tiffany Hanley, Martin Loveless and I all felt we were not ready for this Ultra.
I was having back issues, Martin and Tiff hadn't really done the training due to injury. The forecast promised thundery heavy showers from midnight and so we persuaded the organisers that we weren't really proper runners (very true) so we could start at 10:15 with the walkers, not some 2hours later with the runners. It was very warm and we were all overheating within the first couple of miles. Martin left Tiff and me after the First checkpoint to do the 18 mile version as he was being sensible. Tiff and I pressed on using a slow run/walk strategy but despite using a combination of gps and route instructions, navigation wasn't straightforward and as we headed inland after Folkestone the route although pretty wasn't very much different from other countryside routes. The checkpoints were roughly every 7 miles and barring the first were typical well stocked LDWA affairs.
I like to stop and take time to eat at checkpoints and Tiff, who usually likes to keep going, also made the most of the available food. It got dark around 8 when we 36 miles in, we were both suffering with blisters and assorted aches and pains. Despite threats to retire from Tiff, she dug in and battled on. We met up with Jenny Howland and I stopped to help her with head torch issues so we lost Tiff for a while but she waited at the next checkpoint and Tiff and I pressed on. There had been thunder and lightening around since it got dark but we didn't start to get rain until about 5 miles from the end, just a few spots which then became heavier drops and then persistent heavy drops, with it being so warm, I really didn't want to put my coat on and we made the finish just after midnight before the heavens opened, thunder, lightening the whole deal.

Steve Bennet, who covered for Lisa at the last race, writes
"I would like to say a big thank you to all the Hardley Runners who turned out to represent the club with such enthusiasm during the 2015 RR10 season. Despite terrible weather for the final round at Winchester, 28 members answered the call for a strong finish to the season. The men's team finished 9th overall, just one point from 8th, their best result since 2012. The ladies team finished strongly to maintain 15th position overall. Great turnouts meant we were able to field teams down to an E team for the men and a C team for the women!
There were individual successes to celebrate. As already published Mike Clarke successfully defended his V70 crown from our own Paul Newby. Our top man overall was Ben Andrew in joint 13th. Our top lady was Vicki Clarke in 37th overall. Congratulations. Of course there were great performances all the way through our field and it was great to see many new faces joining the fun. The rr10 series remains great fun for all abilities.
Finally, as many of you know, Lisa announced her intention to step down as RR10 captain after 3 years. On behalf on the entire club, I extend our warmest thanks to Lisa for welcoming, leading, inspiring and supporting us in all weathers, not to mention the behind the scenes administration and the organisation of our own race. Thank you Lisa."
The wet weather did not deter many and there was a good turnout with 28 Hardley runners. The course was much improved with lovely new paths where there had been muddy bits last year. The venue accommodated loads of wet runners with great forebearance and good humour and the marshals were cheerful and enthusiastic (thank you Winchester). Hardley results are below. The full results are on the RR10 website (see Links tab above).

The Salisbury 5-4-3-2-1 Trail Marathon is so-called because the 50K race includes 5 rivers, 4 hills, 3 large country estates, 2 castles, and 1 cathedral. It caters for runners and walkers with a choice of distances from 5K to 50K. Mike Roberts and Paul Blundell ran the 42K and finished 92nd and 93rd in 4:40:57. Alice Ryder was close behind 101st place in 4:42:44. Mark Causebrook was 10th in the 21K in 1:41:07 and Paddy Butler was 26th in 1:50:35. Giuliana Franzese-Henry and Terry Earney were 137th and 138th in the 33K in 4:30:00 and 4:32:23. You can read more about the event here. And the results are here.
Well done John McKenzie who was 24th and first M50 in 43:48. You can see the full results here.
An excellent turnout with 33 members running. The course was good, much less rooty and rutty than some, the marshals were good (thanks Lordshill) and the thunderstorm held off for most of the race. I think it was the first time we have had three generations from one family running so congratulations to the Anglims.
It is always good to welcome new runners. Ann Maylott writes, "My first RR10 tonight really enjoyed it :) didn't make it running all the way up the hill but hey ho there's always next time. I just wanted to enjoy it and not stress myself out. Mission accomplished! great marshals as always and great support from the Hardley Runners thank you all xx"

David Gould reports, "What a nice idea! Start at 9pm, run out of the park and along the South Downs Way to Cocking, then run back.
I started with Tiffany, Mark and Paul of Hardley Runners, wondering how my grumpy hamstring would respond to the good (probably too good) pace. It became rapidly clear that there was no way I could keep up with them, so drifted off the back and found a pace that kept me just the right side of injuring it further.
The course was bone dry throughout (if you managed to avoid the 2 or 3 small puddles in one place) and the Xero Shoes ("flip-flops" to nearly everyone who commented on them, with the heroic exceptions of a couple of marshals who actually run in them too) coped pretty well. The surfaces were a mixture of gravelly or flinty chalkpaths, a few small stretches of tarmac and grassy trail. Needless to say, it undulated a bit and, while some of the hills needed walking, there was nothing really severe.
The course wasn't supposed to be specifically signposted, aside from in the park: we were to rely on the SDW acorns on the signpost. In fact, there were a couple of prominent signs at particularly tricky turns, so I managed not to get lost at all. The Garmin with the OS maps and the organiser's GPS track came out once or twice to reassure me of that.
It really helped that we had a full moon for all the run, though that did mean there was a heavy dew that, on the grassy stretches, had a go at washing my feet of the dust of the chalky tracks.
There were three feed stations: one at the turnround point at Cocking and two on the out and back part of the course, which we therefore visited twice. It was wonderful (cf Ultimate Trails 110km recently) to arrive at a checkpoint where they haven't run out of food. There was a good supply of jelly babies, biscuits and fluids. The best, though, was the watermelon, which the marshals said had been going down well.
Having abandoned all pretence of going for a decent time, I really enjoyed the event: I chatted with the marshals; I took photos and generally had a good time, while working hard enough to beat the walkers. This meant that I would finish in just over 6 hours, only a few people from the end of the field of 89 starters.
I finished tired, but having really enjoyed a well-organised, well-marshalled and scenic marathon. Thoroughly recommended.
Hardley results are below. Congratulations to Mark on his first marathon and to Tiff for being second lady. You can see the full results here. And you can read David's full report here and see his pictures here

Steve Bennett writes,
"I only have myself to blame, Mick Anglim warned me about ultra running and ultra runners when I joined the club! I should never have joined Martin, Tiff and Ian that Tuesday evening for a trot around the Forest instead of the scheduled track session. But listening to their tales stirred something and before I knew it they had me in their grasp.
So to Endure 12/50 which took place Saturday 7pm until Sunday 7am in Beale Park, Pangbourne, alongside the River Thames. You had several options - 50K, 50 miles or 12 hours overnight. I entered the 12 hour solo race (team relay is also an option). I completed 55 miles in 11:57:38 and came 16th male solo out of a field of 72 men, upholding Hardley honour by beating a Lordshill Runner into 17th."
You can read more about the event here.
I was persauded to go by some of the Andover parkrunners. Were there any other Hardley runners there? It was a great opportunity to add to my collection of Olympic stadiums (which has now reached three with Beijing and Amsterdam) and to experience that moment when you go through the tunnel into the stadium; something I've always envied Olympic marathon runners. Also to run on the track that saw Mo Farah's famous victories in the Olympics. It was a 9.30 start which is early to get there but just do-able on the first train. I didn't have time to drop my bag but I had anticipated that and brought the one I used on the Lakeland 50 so I could run with it. Nor did I have time to visit the loo which meant a pee stop was needed at the first opportunity and was a huge relief.
The course went round the Olympic park taking in sights familar from 2012. The sun shone lots and it was far too hot but that didn't matter. The important thing was to make the most of it and soak up the sights. Afterwards I drank a litre of strawberry milk sitting in the standwatching later waves finish and was still thirsty. Oh and the result. I was 4526th in 58.12, a lot faster than the previous day's parkrun when I was last in a record field of 247. It was the parkrun's 4th birthday so it was fancy dress. The email afterwards congratulated me on my best time for the year!

An incredible 37 teams descended onto Southampton athletic track for the annual Mile of Miles event. The event raised £670 that will be donated to British Blind Sport specifically used to help set up a website to help blind or partially sighted runners find a sighted buddy of equivalent ability in their locality to go running with.
Defending champions, Southampton, led the field in all nine legs and at the changeover for leg 10 held a healthy lead of around 200m . It looked like John ‘the terminator’ Macinnes would lead them to another victory. Heads turned to see who was waiting at the changeover for Eastleigh Running Club and quickly dropped. It was Tom Stevens Eastleigh's Crown Jewels. As leg 10 unfolded it was like watching a wildlife programme where a cheetah chases down a gazelle, you know you don't want to see it happen but it's compulsive viewing. John courageously held the lead until 700m from the end but could not halt Eastleigh from gaining the win. It was a brilliant tactical victory from Eastleigh as most clubs employ their fastest runners on the early legs. Congratulations to Hayley Payne and her Eastleigh squad.
Our A team finished a very creditable 5th. Well done!
B Team Captain, Chris Harris, writes,
"Dear Everyone, thank you for taking part in the mile of miles B team ! Congratulations on running so well, you have all achieved some very good times ! There is nothing quite like running on a proper track.
Paul , Mark and Jake all ran last year their times have all improved! Apologies for my slower time , my legs think they are still cycling !
As there were over 35 teams it will take some time for Southampton to sort out the team positions, but wasn't the evening such fun and well organised? Thank you runners one and all and also thank you to Geoff for once more doing the time keeping and to Roy Van Hal who worked with Geoff."

The weather was cool and with some light rain; ideal for running. Very nice race, lovely route through the New Forest and a nice mix of road and mostly forest trails. A lovely horse brass memento, cheerful marshalls and a good venue with plenty of space and parking. What's more to want! Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here.

The weather was kind and the marshals were enthusiastic. The course was a bit different with a longer first loop in the car park which reduced the traffic jam at the entrance to the woods. The ground was hard and in parts it was both rutty and rooty so you had to be a bit careful but all in all a good run. Thank you Eastleigh. Hardley results are below. The full results are on the RR10 site (see Links tab). And here's a lovely album from Hammy.

Martin Loveless reports,
Just 3 runners this year from Hardley entered but 9 of us managed, as ever, to have a great weekend in deepest Dorset with the race only briefly interrupting the more social side of running.
Charmouth challenge is the most Southerly fell race in England and includes a climb of the highest point on the south coast, Golden Cap and also Chardown Hill which is even higher (but not on the coastline) so even though the race is only 8 miles long, it does live up to its title. There’s even a nice cooling hose down on the finish line by the local fire brigade and with an entry fee of just £8 makes it a run not to be missed – plus no naff medal at the end as all the proceeds from the race go to the local primary school with over £65,000 raised so far in the 30 or so years it’s been running.

There was a large turnout for the sixth RR10. Monday's rain had left a few puddles but conditions were generally firm. Quite a lot of the course was narrow and in woods with lots of roots or on rutted paths. Becuase there were so many people it became difficult to see because the person in front was in the way and there were quite a few falls. That included me so thanks very much to the people who stopped and lifted me up. Hardley results are below. The full results will be on the RR10 website (see links tab) on Thursday evening.

For those as don't know, this is a sort of runners' Glastonbury. Solos or teams do as many five mile laps as they can within the 24 hours. Plus you can enjoy camping and the general festive atmosphere. You can read more about it here. This was Steve Bennett's first ultra. He writes,
"I achieved my target of 75 miles within 23 hours and finished 42nd male solo out of 100. I was delighted and next year plan to get much closer to 100 miles.
There was a small Hardley turnout. David Gould was there again and completed 80 miles and was 33rd solo man as part of his preparations for the Lake District. Katie Collard (pictured jumping for joy) and her sister Sarah King were with the Forton Village idiots once more! They were 70th mixed team with a total of 115 miles. The full results are here.
A great event and every time I passed the camp site in my Hardley shirt, I got a lot of encouragement from our friends from Eastleigh, who had a few relay teams there, as well as Hedge End, Romsey and Totton."

HRRL Captain, Adrian Mudle, reports, "The last event of the season, and with the weather looking to be a bit on the warm side, memories from last year's 24 degrees came back. However being slightly cooler with a fresh breeze, conditions were better than last year. With 500 plus runners it was a packed field, though this did not stop Matt Tanner leading the Hardley male team home, and Alice the ladies. It's a fast course and only the temperature prevented runners being at their best, oh and I should mention the Canadian Geese who left there calling cards all over the final section of the large lap so some careful footfall was needed to avoid the mess.
Matt, Mick, and Terry all came in the top three positions for there age categories. Well done!
From the team captain's role I would like to personally thank all the Hardley Runners who have taken part in the Hampshire Road Race League this year helping us to maintain a good position in the league, and to all those who think the races are for the elite runners, please just look at my results! We can all take part, all abilities are welcome, and it gives those runners just trying to keep fit an ideal target to work to throughout the season, so please drop me a line if you are thinking can I do this but are not sure. The next season starts with a nice 5 mile run in Overton in September, so plenty of time to train.
Hopefully I can see more of you running in the next season."

Meanwhile on the other side of the world there was only one Hardley runner in the Easter Island Marathon. Webmaster, Jeremy Barber, was 18th overall (something of an improvement on 17,000th in London) and first MV60 (out of 7) in 4:26:00. The course included views of some of the famous statues and the volcanic crater where they were quarried. It rose from sea level to over 600 feet by mile 11 then down to sea level for the turn and back up again over the next two miles. Thank goodness it was mostly a gentle downhill after that! You can see the full results here And here's a photo album.
Holly Bayliss was really pleased to have completed the 100K course in 75th place (11th lady) in a time of 14 hrs and 14 mins. Well done! More information here.

Road Race Captain, Adrian Mudle, reports, "A good day for a run in Alton with the ideal weather conditions, and with two of our runners winning awards in their categories: Matt Tanner 1st in the V50 and Terry Earney 3rd in the V60. While we could have done with more runners, we had complete teams, for the men, and ladies teams, so a big thank you to all that made it. Next week is the Netley 10K a nice shorter local run, for those who can make it. Online entries appear still to be open, if not entry on the day may be possible.

Paul Blundell reports, "Two Hardley runners completed the 33mile option: Paul Blundell and Ian Hawker made a 9am start in cloudy but dry conditions, the weather warmed up quite quickly but a bit of breeze on the hilltops helped.
This was a training run for another event at the end of June so it was low stress with no worries about time. The bluebells were astounding in the first 5miles along with the smell of wild garlic, there were a lot of flies in places and the run along the canal at about 10 miles seemed to go on forever, but we both coped well pacing ourselves and met some great fellow runners which made the miles go by more quickly.
Showers and a meal at the end were greatly appreciated, and the whole experience although obviously tiring was quite satisfying."
You can read more about this lovely race here. There is also a 20 mile option. And there's a lovely souvenir mug as well.
There was a cold wind which made waiting at the start a chilly experience. But once we got into the woods there was shelter and the new course was excellent. It started on a gravel track through piles of recently-felled logs with a wonderful pine spell. There was a very long down hill which meant that there was a lot of up hill to come but the going was good underfoot. Anyone hoping for a good place because other people would have been put off by the weather would have been disappointed as the turnout was high. Our thanks to our Totton friends for a well-organised event. Hardley results are below. The full results will be on the RR10 website (see Links tab) on Thursday evening. John McKenzie writes, "I was totally bemused as to why so many fellow athletes chose to run dressed as Star Wars characters this morning. Then the penny dropped; May the fourth be with you. D'oh !!
Matt Pillinger was 87th in 42:33 and John was 114th in 43:55.

A lovely off-road race with challenging hills, bluebells and bacon butties. And all in aid of the Wherwell Playing Fields. What's not to like! Mike Roberts was 12th in 45:56 and Jeremy Barber was 81st in 1:00:57. You can read more here.
Alice Ryder reports, "I did the Geneva half marathon on Sunday
My result was 1hr 44.27. It was a lovely course but very rainy. The crowds were good but nowhere near as good as the support at the Southampton half marathon last weekend!"
You can read more here.
John McKenzie writes, "What an amazing event. A town crier to announce the race start, the first kilometre lined with cheering spectators as we ran through the town centre, then a big loop around The Tor in traffic free country lanes. Chip timing, t shirt & medal - all for £12.00." John was 66th (age adjusted 22nd) in 44:34. You can read more about the race and see the results here.
A bit over the standard 26.2 with 27 miles of mixed terrain and climbs of 3450 feet including Devil's Dyke, Chanctonbury Ring and Cissbury Ring. Paul Blundell reports,
"It started off wet but dried off very quickly. But it was still very cloudy and I spent much of the run in cloud with limited visibility. I did the marathon where you run out to a point and then run back joining the half marathon route and the wind was behind us until the turning point at around 11miles, so spent a lot of the race running into the substantial wind.
There were lots of checkpoints with squash ,water, jelly babies, banana and cake,we had to cross a busy road twice but they had the usual slow down runners in road signs out.
The finish was well stocked with cake and water/squash,when I got back in around 4hrs 45 mins. It was all either up or down, and some of the climbs were steep but it was the long moderate climbs that I found hardest as had to decide to walk or run very slowly.
Everyone was pretty friendly and had a few chats to take my mind off the effort.
It was good turnout despite the weather and I arrived 45 minutes before the start and only just got a parking spot in the overflow car park."
You can read more about the event here.
There were two Hardley runners in this lovely race this year. Both started with the Andover parkrun and then jogged the six miles to Hurstbourne Tarrant ready for the start. For David this was part of a longer (28 mile) run as he started and finished at Longparish as part of his preparations for Endure 24.
For the record, David Gould was 107th in 48:05 and Jeremy Barber was 170th in 58:33. You can see the full results here.
Webmaster, Jeremy Barber, reports. Conditions were excellent for the London Marathon this year: cool and overcast with a feint hint of drizzle. A bit cold for spectators but ideal for runners. By the time the finish closed after 8 hours, there were a record 37,675 finishers.
My day began with the alarm going off at 5.30 so I could get organised to catch a train from Basingstoke at 7.20. There was a great atmosphere on the train which was full of runners. Then it was off to Waterloo East to get the train to Blackheath. Unfortunately lots of people had already got on at Charing Cross to it was pretty full when it arrived. It was totally packed for the journey but again people were in good spirits. After a few minutes walk I got to the blue start area and walked around trying to keep warm and looking for other Hardley runners though I found none as there were so many people. Luckily I was well prepared with warm clothing. Then I checked in my bag and joined the 300 yard queue for a pre-race pee. Next it was into start box 7 (out of 9) where I was next to a 4hr 30 pacemaker.
The gun went and we shuffled forward and I crossed the start after about 9 minutes. By three miles I had warmed up and it was bin liner, gloves and jacket off time. I soon found I had left the 4hr 30 pacers behind and caught up with the 5 hour ones. Was I going backwards? A bit worrying. But no problem: next came 4:45, then 4:30 (another lot) and finally 4:15. I stuck with them, or rather near them as the throng round the pacers made it difficult to run with them.
The crowd was great. It was the largest London crowd I have seen since the time Paula Radcliffe pipped me at the post to take the World Record and they were all making encouraging noises and a lot of them. There were bands, bagpipers and drummers and lots of people shouting for me by name as I had Jeremy written in magic marker down both arms. In Docklands I was running briefly with a random person who couldn't contain himself. He looked around and said, "Isn't it wonderful?" and he was right.
I drew slightly ahead of the pacers and managed to keep going at an even pace. There was no wall and I found myself overtaking people, the first time that has ever happened to me in the second half of a marathon. The trouble is I don't know what I did right! Was it the lack of practice and the extreme tapering? Perhaps it was the swigs of concentrated PSP22 I took every three miles or so washed down with water one of the many and very efficient water stations. Perhaps it was the weather as some previous races have been too hot. Whatever it was, I was well pleased when I caught Adrian who had started in box 5 and was finding it a bit like hard work at the time. He encouraged me onwards and I was pleased to finish about 20 minutes faster than planned.
Hardley results are below. Click on a runner's name to see their personal results page and link to pictures. You can see the full results here. Were there any other Hardley members running? If so please let me know and I'll add you to the list.
I can thoroughly recommend the London Marathon. Even if you don't like big races it is worth doing once for the experience. The ballot for the 2016 race opens on Monday 4 May. And if you don't get in then your rejection letter will give you extra points when it comes to allocating Club places.

Conditions were cool and overcast for the first Southampton Half Marathon and 10K. In other words ideal for running. The races started and finished in the heart of Southampton’s city centre with the run course passing iconic local landmarks including Bargate, QE2 Anchor and St Mary’s Stadium. Another race highlight was running over the Itchen bridge, which was closed for the event.
There was a good turnoutof Hardley members. Well done to all concerned. I'm sure there were some PBs. Let me know and I'll add a mention. Congratulations to Paul Pallister who was 2nd overall and 1st MV40. He is pictured on the right overtaking Brian Underwood who was 3rd about 15 seconds behind Paul. Steve Bennett smashed his PB and finished with a negative split in (chip time) 3:46:26. Well done! He says, "A very flat and fast course taking you from Manchester United down to Altringham and back. I was the only Hardley Runner, but I saw a Romsey Runner, Lordshill Runner and a few from Winchester!" You can see the full results here
Well done Alice Ryder who was 267th woman finisher by her gun time of 3:54:11 and four minutes quicker (but in 282nd place) on the chip with 3:50:07. You can see more here Were there any other Hardley runners there? If so please let me know and I'll add your results.
Ron Godden was 25794th (out of over 40,000 finishers) in 4:25:09 and Andy Simpson was 25969th in 4:25:36. Well done! Were there any other Hardley runners there? If so please let me know and I'll add your results.
This is an LDWA event which offers 10,17, 26.6 and 35 mile routes and is open to runners as well as walkers. Starting at the Pewsey Scout hut, this circular walk on footpaths and bridleways has beautiful views over the Vale of Pewsey and Marlborough Downs. The route visits many sites of archaeological interest, including Avebury Stone Circle, the Sanctuary, Windmill Hill, and passes close to the Stone Avenue, Silbury Hill and the Long Barrow. It also takes in the Giant's Grave, Wansdyke, Morgan's Hill, Cherhill, Tan Hill and part of the Ridgeway. Paul Blundell and Ian Hawker did the 35 mile route in 7hrs 33mins.
This month the L2SOTM celebrated 100 runs. It was a lovely sunny morning and the record field included 5 Hardley members. Afterwards there was chocolate cake and special awards including to two people who work hard to keep the show on the road: David Gould, the race Webmaster and Course Setter, who has also completed the run 70 times and Maggie Barber who has taken charge of marshalling and timekeeping for nearly all of the 100 races and made acres of flapjack to sustain the runners afterwards. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results and a photo album here.

We had two runners in the 20 this year. Sue Sleath was 40th in 3:07:08 and Paul Blundell was 41st in the same time. I wonder if it was a tie on a sprint finish. Or maybe Paul, ever the gentleman, said, "After you.". You can see the full results here.
Thanks very much to everyone who supported the race whether by organising or marshalling or running or any combination of all three! Hardley results are below. For the full results please see the Exbury 10K tab above.

So far as I can see there was only one Hardley runner in this lovely race this year. Step forward David Gould who was 113rd in 2:30:24. Only David would do this race in sandals and then discard them and go barefoot! He has made a video which you may be able to see on Facebook by following this link.
There was an excellent Hardley turnout with 30 members taking part in this HRRL event. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here. Particular mention goes to Sue Sleath who was only 21 seconds off her PB despite two hilly 20 milers in the previous 3 weeks. The event was this years's club championship. All will no doubt be revealed at the Awards Lunch on 24 May (see Social tab above). Here's a lovely album by Steve Roderick featuring Hardley runners at Eastleigh.

Meanwhile, at the other end of the world, your webmaster was running in the most southerley AIMS-certified marathon at Stanley in the Falkland Islands. I was hoping for a top 100 finish. It was chilly, wet and windy but I was prepared for that. All went well and I even managed to overtake some people in the second half to finish 55th (48th male) in 4:41. It is the only marathon I have done where runners and helpers are invited to a reception at Government House the next day which was a very nice way to celebrate my birthday. You can see the full results here.
It was a Hardley 1,2 in the Half Marathon at the New Forest Running Festival (link to Facebook page) at Linwood. Ben Andrew was first home in 1:25:25 and Huw Davies was six seconds behind in second place. Well done! Were there any other Hardley runners? If so please let me know as the results don't show clubs so it is not easy to spot you.
Hardley President, MicK Anglim, won the M65 British Duathlon title by 6 minutes at Clumber Park.
It was a 10k run, 40k bike into a freezing, 18mph Northerly wind and a final 5k run centred on the beautiful National Trust estate in Sherwood Forest. As British Champion Mick qualifies to represent GB in both the 2016 World and European Duathlon Championships.
Mick's. time was 02:25:26 split as follows 10K run 00:47:22, T1 00:01:09, 40K bike 01:10:49, T2 00:01:05, 5K run 00:25:04
You can read more about the event here and see the
full results here.
Liz Young ran well in the Sprint Duathlon (5K, 20K, 2.5K) but had mechanical problems so didn't have a good bike leg. She finished 278th overall (12th FV35) in 1:18:48.
There was a new start and finish this year for this tough 20ish miler but the route included all the favourite muddy and steep bits. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here.

Adrain Mudle reports, "The run was as good as the previous years through a very scenic course along the Avon Valley, and some may say the cooler weather better for the run, and after the new Ryde 10 course appeared almost flat, with a good turn out from Hardley. This was a well supported event by runners and supporters with a larger field this year. The constant changing from running on the left hand side of the road to the right hand and back again was a little odd but did not effect the results and with many pleased with the results and some PB’s achieved."

Twentyish muddy, hilly, boggy, beachy miles of the multiest-terrain running experience you will find this side of the end of time. It's by no means the toughest race around (seriously), has changed over the years and nearly died on a few occasions, but hundreds of runners keep coming back for more so they must still be getting it right. Whatever it isn't, it is an experience.
A Grizzly runner once wrote, "I have run in a few races but have never been in a race that manages to create physical challenge whilst taking a sideways glance at running, allowing all involved to emerge with a crooked grin on their face!"

There's no stopping John after the Marcothon. On Friday 20 February he was 30th overall and 2nd MV55 in the Boscombe 5K in 20:00, on Saturday he was 23rd overall and first MV55 at the Netley Abbey parkrun in 21:17 and on Sunday he was 22nd overall and 1st MV55 in the Richmond Park 10K in 43:08. Well done! Click on the race names to see the full results.
Rachel Clark who finished 39th (7th woman) in 4:02 reports, "The course was what they call 'undulating', started well with sunshine and frost but then changed to wind, rain and hail. I felt sorry for the marshalls, at least I was running!" You can see the full results here.
This year there was only one Hardley runner this year but didn't he do well! Mark Causebook was 20th in 1:32:35 out of a field of 455. Well done. You can see the full results here.
The sole Hardley lady was Liz Young who was 181st out of a record field of 865 in 37:48 over the muddy 8K course. Well done! There was also a record turnout with 2005 finishers in the Senior Men's race over a muddy 12K course. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here. There was an excellent report of the race in the Daily Telegraph which you can read here.

With all five matches now complete our men were 6th in Division 2 and our veteran men were 7th in Division 1. Thank you very much to everyone who represented the Club over the season. You can see the full results here (scroll down)
Adrain Mudle reports, "While we would loved to have been at the CC6, those marathon training went for the Bramley 20. Like the CC6 it was an ideal day for the race, with three Hardley runners doing the 20 mile option along with 743 other runners, passing the finish line at 10 miles which is always a physiological challenge, where 2 Hardley runners choosing the 10 mile option finished along with 644 other runners. Although with no cakes at the first or second visit (finish) it was a welcome sight, though some did clean out the goody bag before we got back to the car."

It was a lovely morning for a run. The recent rain left the course muddy in places but the previous dry spell meant that the mud was never too deep. The course was well marshalled, the parking was good and the cakes afterwards were great, too. Thanks Totton! In fact cakes are rapidly becoming a CC6 tradition and one which in your webmaster's humble opinion, should be encouraged and applauded. Hardley results are below. Mick Anglim reports."Congratulations to all who represented Hardley in the final HCCL race and helped the club to move into 6th place to stay in Div 2 again. Particularly thanks to our 2 new youngsters who lead the team home yesterday and to Graeme and Linda who also ran the Wilverley parkrun in the morning. Rob, Ian, myself, Paul and Adrian also scored in the Individual League and our Vets stayed comfortably in Div 1.
Well done to everyone who represented Hardley throughout the season and we will hopefully have a ladies team as well next season.

A lovely scenic race on very quiet rural roads with challenging undulations. The race was well marshalled by the Blackmore Vale Lions and the sandwiches and cakes at the Bishops Caundle Village Hall were both delicious and excellent value. This year conditions were good with temperatures above freezing and dry roads though there was a bitter wind. John McKenzie was 103rd in 1:36:39, Andy Simpson was 191st in 1:46:28 and Jeremy Barber was 353rd in 2:07:28.You can see the full results and read more about the race here.
A tough new course with around 600' of climb plus a freezing 25mph NW wind to add to the challenge. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here. You'll need to press the results tab and navigate to the results.

This race is always popular with Hardley members and this year was no exception with 24 finishers. Included in the 24 were at least three PBs - step forward Mark Causebrook, Adrian Mudle and Katie King. Well done! Were there any others? Conditions were good. The only grumbles were the crush - perhaps a one way system next time and the long queue in the cold to collect bags. It was a good job it wasn't raining. The marshals were frequent and friendly - well done the Stubbies. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here.

Masrk Causebrook reports, "Due to illness and injury I was the only Hardley participant at today's Rough n Tumble. Conditions were fair for January but the gale force winds made it very difficult as you crossed the top of the various hills. Managed to fall over twice in the last mile going down the infamous gully and lost 4 places. Managed to regain one position to finish 17th in 1:16:50. Full results can be found here."
Martin Loveless writes, "Lovely morning for a run and great cakes at the end again - if only i could run and wasn't on a January fast, would have been even better!"

A pleasant 2 lap course round the Somerley Estate with good views of the house and the river. A huge cheer went up when the race started nearly 20 minutes late. The car parking charge was unexpected and collecting it may have delayed the start. A good job it was only cold and not raining as well! The kilometre markers were not evenly spaced and the start was downhill and crowded with a pinch point at the bottom of the hill which was potentially hazardous. But all in all it is a good event and an excellent fund raiser for Autism Wessex. Hardley results where I knew the names are below. You can see the full results here. There was a fair bit of mud about but the course was very much drier than last year when parts of it had to be abandoned becuase they were submerged. The weather was warm and damp and the odd spots of rain were welcome as they helped prevent overheating. Hardley results are below. You can see the full results here.
