The Solent Half is our half marathon held in October.  It is a friendly race with up to 500 entries and a lovely course winding through the New Forest around Exbury and along the Solent shore at Lepe.

This year's race - Sunday 9 October 2011

On a windy but sunny morning Andy Greenleaf won in 1:09:57 over 3 1/2 minutes clear of 2nd place Julian Manning and that after running in the London Cross Country League race the day before. The ladies' race was much closer with Laura Allen winning by only only 25 seconds from Emma Patel.

For some of the course runners enjoyed the spectacle of a stampeding herd of New Forest ponies which added to the atmosphere!

As usual Hardley Runners marshalled enthusiastically and there was much positive feedback from the competitors after the race.  Winner, Andy Greenleaf says, "Many thanks to you and your team for putting on another great event this year. The organization was top notch and very efficient. Despite not living down in Hampshire any longer, I still like to make the effort to come down and race the Solent Half as there aren't many races in London that have quite the same scenery! I look forward to the 2012 race."  For more comments see Runners World.
