The race diary includes all the events Hardley Runners are likely to enter and some social ones as well. We try to update it about once a fortnight. Here's the latest race diary which was added on 1 September.
The Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL) is an annual series of road races for all runners from participating clubs in the County. We field two men's teams (four per team) and two ladies' teams (three per team). Club members who take part in the events are automatically members of the teams if they finish high enough up the field. For some of the events where we are not well represented you may find you are in the team just by turning up! Details and dates all the events are here. Our own Solent Half is one of them. The first race is the Overton 5 on Saturday 4 September. Click here for entry form.
This race in the HRRL series is very popular with Hardley members. Last year's was cancelled because of the bad weather so out Stubbie friends are giving a special discount to people who entered last year. Book quickly though as this offer only lasts until the end of October. After that you take your chance with everyone else and the race is always oversubscribed. Click here for details.
There are two main series of events where we field teams - see below. In addition we field teams at the Southern Championships which are at Parliament Hill this year - not to be missed and the Nationals. If you'd like to enter either of these events (runners of all standards welcome - you don't have to be fast to enjoy the experience) please contact Roy van Hal.
These events are held all over the County. There is a league plus the Hampshire Championships. Details are on Linda's lovely poster The good news is that these events are free provided you are an EA member. The first event is at Farley Mount on Saturday 9th October.
CC6 is a friendly cross country league organised by local clubs. Races are great fun and free for members to enter. They take place once a month on Sunday mornings, between November and March. Distances are between 4 and 5 miles and have similar locations to those in the RR10. Club CC6 captains Dave and Jenny Jewell are keen to get as big a turnout as possible. Details of the next season will be published here when they are available. You can find out more about this excellent series of races by visiting the CC6 website (see links page).
Andy Kellaway has entered this very scenic race and would like to get a party together. Click here to contact him. The race website is here.
A multi terrain on the private Hursley estate with chip timing, followed by a 1mile fun run for the kids. Free bouncy castle , face painting. BBQ, refreshments and many stalls. More info here www.hursley10k.co.uk All money goes towards the primary school.
For those off road runners who have never done the Original Mountain Marathon (formerly the Karrimor MM) there is less excuse this year as the location is in 'South West Britain'. The event will be held over the weekend of Saturday 30th and Sunday 31 October so that competitors have the 'benefit' of an extra hour's sleep on the hills!
Hardley Runners have a long tradition of taking part in this event. Last year we fieldws five teams so you can find out what it is really like by asking any of them - John Horton & Mick Anglim, Tony Musson & Martin Elston, Sue Sleath & Allan Peat, Judy Pike & Kevin Bannister, Mike Delauney & Phil Shearsmith
For more information see the OMM site and navigate using the tabs, News, The Event, Entry information and so on.
Entry fee per team £98. Closing date 28th July. Start list on web site 2nd August
Changes for 2010 - Extra Class
In order to reduce erosion on the B & C classes OMM have introduced an additional class between them. The original C class will now be called D with the same distance & climb as the old C Class. The new C Class is intended to be a transition between the traditional linear course and the score courses. At certain stages on the course competitors will need to select which controls they want to visit. The result will still be based on time.
The RR10 league is a series of races organised by running clubs in south-west Hampshire for their members. The races are held on Wednesday evenings during the spring and summer. Entry is free. All of the races are 4-5 miles off-road. The standard of runners varies from 5-minute milers to 12+ minute milers so, however fast you are, there will always be someone to compete with or just enjoy a run together if that's what you prefer. The only requirement is to wear a Hardley vest on the night and there are usually some for sale at the race for a tenner, so why not give the series a try. There is usually a lift share from the Applemore car park.
