Coronavirus

We have had a series of virtual events which went down well with members.  Details are below in case you fancy giving any of them a go.  This year's Club Championship 10K will be another but we are gradually getting back to a new normal.  The first 4 RR10s were cancelled but the league will re-start at Fleming Park on 21 July.  The Hampshire Road Race League restarts in September although our Solent Half won't be back until 2022.

Club Championships Virtal 10K - July 2021

This year's Club Champonships will be a virtual 10K.  Details here.

RR10s are back

The first RR10 - Weds 21 July - Fleming Park

The first one will be at Fleming Park at 7.30 on Weds 21 July and there's one every week after that until 25 August.  These informal races are suitable for new members and there is always a car share.  So please do come along and give this one a try.  Scroll for more information and details of the rest of the season.

Our RR10 - Cadland - Weds 11 August - We need your help!

This is our opportunity to put on a great race for members of other clubs who do the same for us.  Please help if you possibly can.  If you haven't aleady done so please contact Rob Wells to offer help.

The Hampshire Road Race League is back - First race Sunday 5 September

The HRRL kicks off with the Overton 5 on Sunday 5 September.  Scroll down for details of the rest of the season.  There races always get booked up so get your entry in early.  If you can't make it then there is very likely to be another Club member who'd like to take your place.  And if not, you will find it easy to dispose of a surplus place on the HRRL Swaps Facebook group.

Virtual Challenges and Events

These events have gone down well with members so we are keeping details on this page for the time being in case you'd like another go.

Hardley a Half and Hardley a Marathon - April/May 2021

This challenge is open to all.  It doesn't matter how fast you are; all you have to do is be able to complete the distance.

Details here

Hardley Runners “Plogging” Challenge March ‘21

We are now past the end of March but please do carry on plogging.  It is a very simple challenge which has been suggested by some of the club members and we are only too pleased to roll this out!

All you have to do is take a bin bag on a run, and the aim is to make our local community a cleaner place by filling up your sack with litter. Once you’ve completed your “plog” attach a picture of you and your sack in the comments on the Hardley Runners Facebook page or email it to Claire Aplin, our publicity officer.

“Plogging is a combination of jogging with picking up litter. It started as an organised activity in Sweden around 2016 and spread to other countries in 2018.

No prizes or winners, just doing our bit for a cleaner community.

Stay Safe, Hardley Runners

Virtual CC6s

CC6 Captain, Hannah Cockle, has some good news.

With it now looking highly unlikely that the CC6 league will resume this season due to the current covid situation we are looking run a virtual league. This will be made up of 3 off-road timed 5 mile runs with individual club members picking their own routes and dates/times of runs to suit themselves. Once you have completed your run, please forward the details to Hannah who will liaise with the CC6 organisers.

Basic rules are

  1. Runners to pick a 5 mile off-road run of their own choice (no road crossings please), preferably with start and finish in roughly the same location (can be laps) and then submit the details to their club CC6 rep (strava photo showing elapsed time or similar)

  2. 3 runs in total, one in January, one in February, one in March with exact date and time of run left to individual runner to choose – you can do as many runs as you want but only one to be submitted per month please

  3. run details to be submitted by end of each month and then club reps to collate information and forward onto Becky on Excel spreadsheet by end of first week in following month please

  4. runners must partake in all 3 runs to be eligible to win their relevant age category group – no individual awards I’m afraid, just the normal recognition on the website

  5. runs must comply with current covid rules which means for most of us no more than one other person with you on your runs (and whatever new rules may emerge in the next 3 months)

If you have any questions please let me know, good luck!

All the best, Hannah Cockle

Hardley Runners CC6 Captain

Virtual Club Events

Hopefully coronavirus restrictions will be lifted and we all welcome a return to normality. But the club have plans to keep you all going no matter what the situation.

We plan to hold a virtual event every other month. Of course, if Coronavirus restrictions are lifted this agenda may change, but we hope this provides our members with something to aim for throughout the year, whatever it may bring.

The Planned Virtual Events:

(more details about these virtual events will be confirmed nearer the time)

Weekly 5K Isolation Challenge

Dan Latham organises this weekly challenge.  The aim is to improve on your target time and your WAVA score.  All you have to do is run a 5K and let Dan know your time and WAVA score. Results will be on our Results page (see tab above) If you are a member of Facebook there's a Group which you can join to share news.

Dan writes,

"Hi guys, just a reminder to say that the weekly 5K challenge is open to you all and will continue through 2021 until parkrun can recommence.

We've had a review of the 2020 series and have some small minor changes for 2021, mainly a new Target Time for those that have run in 2020 and that for 2021 courses should be loops.

Full details are on this guidance sheet, which hopefully says everything you need to know. But if there's any queries just get in contact with me.

We look forward to seeing as many of you as possible taking part, you don't have to do it every week, you can dip in and out as you please.

The new year is open and the deadline for results is 8pm every Monday."

Garden parkruns

The 5K Isolation Challenge includes a category for garden parkruns so you can do one as well as the main challenge.

Hardley-a-Round - an FKT challenge

You choose the when to run and where to start.  For details please see the News tab above.

RR10 Series

The provisional schedule below has been agreed by the clubs. There are 10 events, with each club being organiser for one and drop-out for another, leaving eight finishes possible for individual runners, of which the best five will count for the individual championship. If there are COVID driven restrictions on the volume of runners starting a race, we may have to consider two races, women followed by men, perhaps 15 minutes apart. The season is starting late becuase guidance from England Athletics is that an earlier start than 23rd June would have required all manner of restrictions, including wave starts, no spectators, and almost certainly number caps.

RR10s are by far the most popular events with our members.  The RR10 league is a series of races organised by running clubs in south-west Hampshire for their members. The races are held on Wednesday evenings during the spring and summer.  Entry is free for all members. All of the races are 4-5 miles off-road. The standard of runners varies from 5-minute milers to 12+ minute milers so, however fast you are, there will always be someone to compete with or just enjoy a run together if that's what you prefer. The only requirement is to wear a Hardley vest on the night and there are usually some for sale at the race, this year with a special offer on old-style kit. So please do give the series a try. There is usually a lift share from the Applemore car park.

Please do not attend our drop out races as a spectator!

Personal music players with earphones are not allowed during RR10 races. It is very important that marshals' instructions can be heard at all times, and some runners have complained about being blocked on narrow parts of a course by runners unaware that someone was coming up behind them.

The provisional dates for the 2021 season are below.

Hants Road Race League

Good news.  There will be a 21/22 HRRL season.  Details are below   We have reluctantly decided not to hold the Solent Half this year.  The upfront costs are just too high to risk cancellation or the large extra expenses of road closures to accommodate staggered starts.  But we'll be back next year.

The Hampshire Road Race League (HRRL) is an annual series of road races for all runners from participating clubs in the County.  We field two men's teams (four per team) and two ladies' teams (three per team).  Club members who take part in the events are automatically members of the teams if they finish high enough up the field.  For some of the events where we are not well represented you may find you are in the team just by turning up!

HRRL races are always popular and they sell out quickly so book early.  If you find you aren't able to take part then you will be able to dispose of your entry on the HRRL number swaps FB page (see Links tab above)

Cross Country

There are two main series of events where we field teams - the CC6s and the Hampshire League.

CC6

The CC6s are now a series of 8 races held over the winter period on cross country courses (lots of lovely mud :-) ). Each course is between 4 and 5 miles (most around 4.5 miles) and is hosted by one or more clubs so that everyone is able to run 7 out of the 8 races. They are free for club members and the only requirement is that you run in club colours, please contact me if you need a Hardley Vest or T-Shirt.

Our CC6 Captains, Roger and Matt, will email you leading up to each event with more information on courses, conditions, etc.  They will also be emailing to ask for your help with the marshaling and setting up of our own race at Dibden Inclosure.   The CC6s are always great fun and I will hopefully see many of you there. Please note that as parking can be very limited at these venues I would like to request that you try to car share wherever possible, thank you.

You can find out more about these races by visiting the CC6 website (see links page).  The 2018/19 fixture list is below to give you an idea of the pattern.  The 21/22 details will be added as soon as we get them   All races start at 9.30am.
